What is The Cost of Granite Countertops?

In a kitchen remodel, new countertops take on an important part of the complete appearance of the new kitchen. Countertops can sometimes make or break a kitchen. On the Central Coast of California, we find granite and quartz to be the most popular countertops used in residential kitchens. Even though they are quite expensive, they make a kitchen look extraordinary!

Standard granite usually costs about $65.00 a square foot (including installation). But because there is such a wide range of granite selections and they are all so unique, the cost can range from $55.00 to $120.00 a square foot on average. Quartz is also around the same price. Depending on the brand, i.e. Caesarstone, Silestone, Hanstone, cost can vary. Our company is most familiar with Caesarstone and the costs usually run around $75.00 a square foot. But remember the color/style also makes a difference in price.

Acrylic solid surfaces, i.e. Corian, can range around $40.00 to $45.00 a square foot. These countertops give the option of having an integrated sink as well, which is sometimes an advantage for many. Laminate, i.e. Formica, is the least expensive of all countertops and can run anywhere from $10.00 to $20.00 a square foot, including the installation.

Based on the accompanying materials used in a kitchen remodel, the countertop quality should match that of the cabinetry, appliances and fixtures. Having high-end appliances and custom cabinetry would often require granite, quartz or marble countertops. An apartment kitchen with home improvement store-bought cabinets would fit well with a simple laminate countertop. Do what’s best for you and your budget, but remember, your kitchen is the heart of the home.
